Comparison Between A Golden Retriever And A Beagle

Posted by Abhay ASTA on

A dog is a man's best friend. His loyalty and companionship have been appreciated throughout ages. No matter what breed, a dog is always respectful towards its owner. He loves his owner like nothing else.

It depends on you about which breed of dog you want to choose. Here is a comparison between a Golden Retriever and a Beagle.

About the breeds

Golden Retriever

  • They are popular for their dense and shiny golden colored coat.
  • Golden Retrievers are medium sized, but they are sturdy and muscular.
  • They are broad-headed with short ears, and their muzzle is straight.
  • They are known to be outgoing and pleasant dogs.
  • They are energetic, powerful and are easy to train.

Beagle

  • A beagle's size varies between 13 inches to 15 inches.
  • They are sturdy and solid.
  • They have a broad head and low houndy ears
  • They are clever dogs, loving and companionable.
  • Beagles come in three colors- lemon, red and white, and tricolor.

Training ability of a Golden Retriever and a Beagle

Golden Retrievers are very easy to train. They have a natural sense to learning and obeying orders given by their masters. They are a very intelligent breed of dog.

Beagles, on the other hand, are not so easy to house train. They belong to the hunting breed. Hence, they would rather follow their smell and senses and not their master's command.

Energy Level

Beagles are comparatively more energetic, and they have more stamina. They are always active and looking for playtime.

Golden Retrievers have a very enthusiastic personality, but their energy level is not as high as that of a Beagle.

Grooming

Golden Retrievers shed a lot throughout the year because of their long furry coat. But the shedding is the most during the winter season and spring.

A Beagle's hair shed goes unnoticed because their hair is very short in length. Their hanging ears tend to trap dust, and thus they require regular cleaning sessions.

Life Span of a Beagle and Golden Retriever

A Golden Retriever is known to have an average life expectancy of about 10 to 12 years. A Beagle is known to have a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Both the dog breeds are known to be family friendly dogs and good with children. Choose a dog that matches your idea of an ideal dog.
